Poetry

While many of the articles I'm sharing through this discussion are very technical, the statistics and instruction cannot convey the deep emotion that lies with bullying. The following are some poems, the first written by myself and the others written mostly by children. These were found at http://www.bestteenpoems.com/poems/bullying. You can find many more there, many of which are filled with a great deal of pain and sadness, anger and fear.

As a bully, I...
- Des Fenton

Seek to control others in my enviroment.

Am kind to many, just not all.

Make other people miserable.

Dislike myself.

Seek validation from hurting others.

Fear being bullied.

Contribute to teen suicide.

Pick on those who make easy targets.

Am insecure.

Feel lonely.

Get desperate.

Spew hate.

Want to gain power.

Can be a boy or a girl.

Can be an adult or a child.

May not be who you suspect.

Might be you.

The Bully
- Celest D. Garcie, age 11

There's alawys someone that makes you cry

You gain pain and hurtin inside as days go by

A mean heart, free human being that brings

you many fears in life,

Wondering if the big solution to all your

problems is a fire, gun, or even a knife.

Hoping that all the demon goes away from him

and dies,

It seems impossible but you still try.

Try to be nice but all it does is bringa tear to

your eye,

But then you realize you can't change a person

by yourself, if only they tried.

Freedom from Bullying Poem
- Catrin

"How I felt after I finally got rid of the bullies that I have known all my life and have tormented me about any little fault they could find. I didn't think I could stand them much longer until I realized something - I didn't have to listen.

Running in the meadow,

Dancing in the stream,

Prancing in the buttercups,

Capture the moonbeam.

Flying withthe nightingales,

Crying with the wolf,

Lyaing in the britgh sunshine,

Maybe life is not so full.

Mean Old Dragons
- London Harper

Once upon a time.....

There were two very mean people

They were mean as dragons

There words were cold and hurtful

as cold as the winter snow

La and Wk are mean old dragons

The meanest in the school

If you see them don't fight back

It will only make things

Way Way Worse

I've Taken My Power Back
- Shawn Elford

I know what you've been through feeling alone

in the dark.

I know it seems to all be too much to handle.

The bullies are strong and hurtful in every way.

But you will get through this because ou are

strong.

Just remember things will get easier I promise

you that.

As I walked down these scary halls of this

wretched school

I know the day will come and I will be free to

embrace the person that I am

And look back to scream at the top of my lungs

to say to those bullies

You may have taken my power then but now

I've taken my power back.

No more being afraid to speak up, no more

being afraid to walk, no more

crying in my world which is now filled with

love and repsect and most of all empowerment for

me.

Now I stand tall as a proud human being and

share m purpose in life because

I matter and the power is mine to keep.
